5 Benefits of Rosemary (and 75% Memory improvement from a Sniff is just one!)


Rosemary has many health benefits
Rosemary is an herb that has been a mainstay of cooking and healing for centuries.  A fragrant evergreen herb native to the Mediterranean, it is used as a culinary condiment, to make bodily perfumes, and for its potential health benefits.

The herb not only tastes good in culinary dishes such as rosemary chicken and lamb, but it is also a good source of iron, calcium, and vitamin B6

The health Benefits are impressive. 

1.  Improves Memory. According to a study Rosemary can improve your memory 60-75 % from a sniff. Take it before a test or before a task you have to remember.

2.  Fights Aging and Brain Aging.  Rosemary contains an ingredient, carnosic acid, that is able to fight off free radical damage in the brain (and your body).  And according to a study from Koyoto University may help fight off brain aging.

3. Good for your Eyes.   This same ingredient in rosemary, carnosic acid was found by doctors in a study to  helps ward off Macular Degeneration the most common eye disease in America.

4.  Rosemary fights cancer.  A study in  Oncolocy Reports found that "crude ethanolic rosemary extract (RO) has differential anti-proliferative effects on human leukemia and breast carcinoma cells".

5.  Rosemary as an Anti Bacterial.  Studies show it can help topically with acne or cuts when used as an oil.   Or you can take it internally to improve digestion and increase urine flow as a diuretic and cleanser.

Our favorite recipe?

Rosemary Lamb with a Pine Nut Mint Pesto

  • Large rack of Organic Lamb,  Leg of Lamb or Loin Roast
  • Pierce the meat and insert Rosemary and Garlic cloves,  Splash with balsamic vinegar and let sit in a baggie for 4 hours to marinate
  • Cook as directed.  For a Rack 425 degrees for 35 min.  for a Roast use a meat thermometer
  • Drizzle with Mint sauce and serve


Mint Pesto Sauce

  • 1/4 cup packed mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 3 TBS of pine nuts
  • 1/4  tsp of Rosemary
  • 1/2 cup of virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic (or less to taste if you don't like garlic)
  • Dash of Salt and Pepper
  • Puree in a food processor
  • Serve immediately. 

This recipe works with chicken too.  We mix in a little goat cheese and cherry tomato finely sliced and finely chopped onions when we put it over chicken and roasted potatoes.
